In this video, Dr Ravi Assomull describes how dosing for GLP-1 agonists like Mounjaro is carefully tailored. He explains why it’s essential to start at a low dose to minimise side effects and how doses are adjusted based on weight loss progress. The goal is to find the lowest effective dose while maintaining benefits.

To get you on the right dose of GLP-1 agonist, it's critical we start you on the lowest dose to make sure that your body, and specifically your gastrointestinal tract, get used to it. So typically for a drug like Mounjaro, which is our preferred GLP-1 agonist, we start you at a dose of 2.5mg, which we ask you to take for a month. After that, we tend to titrate that up to 5mg.

We then keep tracking things, and if you continue to lose weight at that dose, we stop. If we find that you've hit a plateau with your weight loss, we may increase the Mounjaro all the way up to the maximum dose of 15mg. It's fair to say that actually most people need significantly less than the maximum dose of 15mg.
