How often does a bicuspid aortic valve need monitoring and scans?
Follow up and monitoring requirements for a bicuspid aortic valve are discussed based on valve function and disease severity. In this video, Dr Ravi Assomull, a Private Cardiologist in London, explains how scan frequency is tailored to each patient.

Once you've been diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, you will need regular follow-up. How frequently that is depends on how bad the valve function is. In someone with a completely normal and well-functioning bicuspid aortic valve, where there is no leakage or narrowings, you may just need an echocardiogram every year or two.
However, if the valve is already leaking or not opening properly, you may need to have echocardiography more frequently, typically every six months or perhaps even every three months if we think you're close to the point where the valve will need to be replaced by surgery.
