You may be surprised to learn that a bicuspid aortic valve is an inheritable cardiac condition. It's present in 1-2% of the population and if you are diagnosed with this condition, your first degree relatives have a 10% chance of also having the same condition. I would therefore recommend an echocardiogram for relatives of any person who has a bicuspid aortic valve as part of a screening process.
