So your diet will have a critical effect on your heart health, and thankfully, this is something that we're all recognising as cardiologists. I actually spend a lot of time now during my consultation with you going through your diet. For me, the key thing about a diet is to ensure that it is predominantly composed of fresh ingredients to avoid processed foods wherever possible, to ensure that the diet is balanced.

I don't believe in cutting out complete food groups. I believe you should have a balance of macronutrients that is appropriate for your lifestyle, what you do in terms of your work, exercise routine. And that really is getting a balance of appropriate amounts of whole grain carbohydrates as opposed to refined carbohydrates, good quality protein, and healthy fats.
